Installing Ashiatsu Bars is much easier and more affordable than most people think it will be. I've installed a set of bars with my father that cost less than $30 (pre-COVID) because I only paid for the materials and no labor. It took less than a few hours for us to complete once we had the materials. I installed the bars into a simple dry wall ceiling attaching the set up into wood studs using eight 4 inch wood screws. It was as easy as hanging a big picture or shelf on the wall. The most a student of mine was invoiced for their bar installation was just over $450. These bars were installed by a carpenter and into a drop ceiling requiring more materials and labor than bars like mine. They were also built around light fixtures and are shown in the manual. This massage therapist traded Ashiatsu massage gift certificates for the cost of the bars and installation. Most of my students have traded massage or massage gift certificates for the bar installation with a friend or relative who can do it.

You can hire a professional to make and install your Ashiatsu Bars or you can make it a DIY project depending on your experience with construction and carpentry. The bars must be sturdy and ABLE TO EASILY SUPPORT YOUR WEIGHT. How you set up your Ashiatsu bars will depend on the factors below.
-

Ashiatsu Bars Suspended From the Ceiling - Most Common:
Low or high ceilings, drop ceilings, cathedral, or loft ceilings are factors in the height and difficulty of the installation of your Ashiatsu bars. If wanted by choice or if you can’t install Ashiatsu Bars into your ceiling, aluminum pipes can be installed into walls instead of a ceiling.

Ashiatsu Bars Suspended From a Frame:
Frames can be built when ceiling support isn't available. Depending on the size of the room this can be as simple as wood supports on the walls or a much larger full external frame that isn’t supported into a ceiling or walls.

Overhead Parallel Bar Material Options:
2 - 2” x 3” x 96” - Select Kiln Dried White Wood Stud - Home Depot. This is the wood I used to make my Ashiatsu Bars in the videos below titled “Installing Ashiatsu Bars - Exposed Ceiling Beams” & Installing Ashiatsu Bars - Hidden Ceiling Beams”.
2 - 1” or 1-1/2” x 96” - Hardwood Round Dowel. I prefer using wood studs for my Ashiatsu Bars over round dowels. You can learn why this is my preference is the video below titled, “Ashiatsu Bar Shape - Rectangular”.
2 - 1” or 1-1/4” Aluminum Pipes. Aluminum pipes are a great option for installing Ashiatsu Bars into walls instead of a ceiling. Another benefit to aluminum bars is their strength. I’ve purchase all my aluminum pipes through https://www.metalsdepot.com/aluminum-products/aluminum-pipe. Below are the Stock # and Item Size & Description of the recommended aluminum pipes. Aluminum pipes can be primes & painted to match the decor of your room. The length of your aluminum pipes will depend on the distance between your wall.
Stock # - T31. Item Size & Description - 1" SCH 40 (1.315 OD X .133 wall) - 6061-T6 Aluminum Structural Pipe.
Stock # - T3114. Item Size & Description - 1-1/4" SCH 40 (1.660 OD X .140W) - 6061-T6 Aluminum Structural Pipe.
